We did a downwinder from Bird Island to almost the Causeway, but since there is construction on the causeway right now, we couldn't land there. We instead landed at the place where the Laguna Shores sensor is located (iwindsurf.com's most sailable sensor). We had a party and cookout. Lots of fun.

The actual downwinder was in light wind, so there were only five of us, and we were all on old longboards. At the end, three of us had longboards whose daggerboard gasket had at least partially torn out. The weeds were so thick that when I got done I had several pounds of weeds caught in the daggerboard gaskets. Awful. I used a really small 11" weed fin because that was the only weed fin I had that would fit the Equipe's A-type fin box. It did okay in the heavy weeds.

The run took about two hours. I was just a couple of mph from planing most of the time, but usually was just on the edge, until the very end when I was on a solid plane for about 10 minutes, even with all the weeds tagging along.

It's a pretty run, but the weeds were so heavy in spots that you had to dodge the bigger patches. We did part of the run in the intracoastal waterway, and part by crossing into the "will it be really shallow here?" part of the Laguna. A potential slam in shallow water is always fun to worry about and makes for exciting windsurfing.
