The wind really wasn't supposed to blow today, but it started early so I took my father, who is in town visiting, and the kids and headed out, giving my wife a day off.

It was a warm & windy day with the wind starting from the south at first, and eventually becoming a little more southeast. I rigged my 4.7 for my Dad to sail, since he hadn't sailed in awhile. He did great for his first time in 10 years, pulling off some water starts and having a few good reaches.

We traded after awhile and I went out. There are still some jellyfish around, but I didn't get stung today. I was watching pretty closely, and my friend Even took a big one in the thigh. I'm going to start wearing biking shorts, because the potential for taking a jellyfish up the short is just too big, and the pain potential even moreso.

The wind was pretty good. I was overpowered on my 6.6 in the gusts to almost 30. The sail still was very controllable and comfortable, and I was going really fast, but the steep, short and closely spaced chop just pounded me. It was not effortless sailing, though still fun.

I did pretty well on my jibes. Having gobs of speed going in sure helps. I've been working on a little different style, trying for more consistency. I've even been dreaming about it. Sad, huh?

My jumps are still pretty much non-existent. My friends who can jump tell me just to go to the bay, because it's so much easier. They are right, of course, but I'm still just getting comfortable sailing in the bigger chop there. I gotta do it, though, because I really want to learn to jump, and I am tired of being patient about it. Time to get aggressive.
