Today was the first time I've sailed at Bird Island for awhile. I went out there mainly because a guy I met at the US Open, Eric S., was sailing there and I wanted to sail with him.
When I got there the wind had just died. It was marginal 7.8 weather, so that's what I rigged. I had purchased a new clew for my carbon Gulftech, to make it extend longer, and the 7.8 rigs much better. Before I couldn't get enough extension on it, and it was floppy extended all the way like that. Now it works well, and it's extended very much, so it's more solid, too.
There are some stinging jellyfish at BIB right now... a fairly rare occurence as I understand it. I got stung walking out. It was my first real sting. I'd had some small stuff, but this was a tenacle on my ankle and I will say that it did sting a bit. It felt like someone was snapping a rubberband that was on my ankle. It went away in a few minutes, though. I sailed fairly aggressively, but I didn't fall in at all, as I didn't want to get one on my neck or face or anything.
I was on the Allstar -- the first time I've sailed that for awhile, too. It was a perfect day for it. The wind was strong enough to really blast around and I hit a few good jibes on it. My jibes are really starting to gel now. I'm getting so that they are feeling more natural. My choppy water jibes, when I sail on the bay, are better than my flat water jibes were two months ago. It's a good feeling. My fast tacks feel pretty good, too, at least on flat water, and if there is enough wind.
I came back to the home we just bought and found a crowd near the drainage ditch about a half of a block away. The city found another alligator in the ditch and were attempted to catch it (they never got the first one, about a month ago). Kind of weird to have to worry about that, too.
