Ray Kuntz is staying with us while he's down here checking out the town. We decided to get some sailing in together, too. I hadn't sailed locally for a week, though it's been cranking every day of that time. With the trip to Whitney I had to get some work done, and I was gone for three days, too.

Ray had some stuff to do, so I went to Bird earlier and found it to be very uncrowded. There were at least a hundred sails on the water 10 days before but today there are only about 10-15. It was blowing pretty hard, high twenties, lower thirties. I decided to rig the 4.1 and see how that did. I put it on the F2 Wave and used the stock fin that came with it -- a flexy 9" Dunkerbeck wave fin. Most of the day was spent getting used to the combination. The board is really lively but is somewhat difficult to get used to. If you start to get back too early, you kill it quickly. It was very turny but not as fast as other boards (as is expected from a wave board). I did find it really fast going into jibes and I also found it to be really easy to jibe. I would come around so fast that I would lose my plane and round up. The biggest problem was that my small 4.1 was twitchy and unstable. I would be ripping along, but not feeling comfortable. I decided to rig the 4.7 and see how that did. It was better, but I still had some trouble. I'd say I had twice as much fun on the 4.7 than on the 4.1, though. Eventually I'm going to get a 4.5 or so. I'll be getting something that is more stable than those.
