A good day at Grassy. I am heading to Whitney Lake for a Regatta this weekend, and I'm not sure how good the wind will be, so I decided to get a little fix mid-week.

Elliana & Evan made it out to GP for the first time, too. They seemed to like it, though I sense that Evan would like a more challenging location. He's a good sailor and likes chop. There isn't much variety at Grassy. It's pretty flat. Also attending was Arlene (first on the water, on her 4.5), Dick, Roy, Mike M., John B., Bob the sail repair guy, Dan, Marilyn & Pete, Alan and a guy I just met, Woody. Fun time for all.

I sailed for a couple of hours and was pretty much fully wound the whole time. I love days like that, it's so easy to go anywhere, and I hit a ton of good, fully planing jibes, both directions. I had one halfway decent fast tack, too. I tried a few jumps, but wasn't too successful. I asked Evan to go out and chop hop a few times in front of me and he asked "off of what chop?" I thought there was enough, but he said it would be easier with more. It wasn't very choppy, but a few areas had a little. I tried a bunch, and probably got the fin out a few times. I'm getting there, but it's tougher because of the flatwater areas I sail frequently. Once I get more comfortable in the Bay, I'll go there and jump more.

All-in-all a VERY good day. I hit a lot of good jibes, a few wobbly ones, but didn't have to admonish myself once for not going for it. A lot of it was the fact that it was windy enough that I didn't ever have to milk a plane. This makes it easier to jibe because you can get so many in, in such a short time. Hit a jibe, head upwind a bit, bear off and grab some steam, do another. Rinse. Repeat.

I bet I've tried more jibes in the last month or six weeks than I had in my entire life up until then. I love this town.
