I wasn't going to sail today, but it looks poor for the rest of the week, so I decided to hit it one last day and work hard all week. This coming weekend I plan to attend the Texas Championship up near Dallas.
Grassy was good today. I was barely powered to powered on my 6.6 while most of the other guys were on 5.0 to 5.5's, some of the more petite women sported 4.5 and such. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The water was a little lower and it was clearer today, so I was a little worried about running aground in spots. It never happened, though.
There were clumps of weeds out, though, and some little tumbleweed looking things. They didn't seem to be a problem to my weed fin, though.
I only sailed for about 90 minutes, because I wanted to see my family a little today. I'd sailed almost every day for a week and so I came home early. During the time I sailed I did well, though, planing out of a couple dozen jibes and having solid speed up and down wind. It was a good flatwater day. After time at the Bay and other choppy areas, I didn't know if I would like flat water again, but it was a nice change. I guess being fully powered is fun in a lot of conditions, and having a variety is good, too. I feel so lucky to live here, with so many different sailing areas in such a close proximity.
I also felt good about derigging. Sound strange? Well, I store all my gear in my minivan, and it's a little crowded. I've tried different arrangements, but nothing really was working well. It took me a long to to rig & derig because everything I wanted was buried. So, the other day I bought some shelving and tried a new system, which freed up the passenger seat for room for someone to ride with me. That didn't work, but another modification did. Now I have all my gear in the car, including the F2 wave board and there is nothing blocking the line of site out the back. I can't take a passenger now, though.
This is important because I also had to do some much rearranging and cleaning that it bugged me dearly. Today, it took me just over ten minutes to pull ashore, derig, pack & drive off. That used to take three times that long. Made me quite happy!
