064 -  BIB closed early ahead of TS ALEX which will hit Mexico just south of Brownsville after midnight tonight.  Decided to try launching at Texas Excursions, aka Laguna Shores Texas and it was full of new things and pretty good.  First exploratory session was solo and mostly uneventful, able to sail around and through all the spoils, long tacks out and close to the IWC constantly steering through weedbergs and dodging channel markers.  Very consistent planing, good power and no misques.  It was strange sailing through the thick green grass attached to the bottom and just an inch below the surface in spots but after a depth check it was knee deep and became standard procedure.  In most other areas the loose weeds on the surface were thick and out past the spoil islands was almost weed free.  Monika and Terry showed up for the second session, the wind had picked up considerably and shifted slighly more easterly.  We tested more areas around several more spoil islands without problems.  Stilll full time planing, much more power and a few misques.  The water access is OK with about 25 feet of 3 foot thick grass along the shoreline to walk through getting in and out of the water. June ends 2 days below average and YTD is 12.4 days below average.

Water lever at Packery Channel 3.4 feet.

6/30 Tried again but sat in car overpowered in 35-40 mph winds and rain TS ALEX landfall still forecast south of Brownsville.

7/1 H2 ALEX into Mexico @ 100 mph and 100 miles south of Brownsville.  Tried again but wind dropped below 20 mph before noon.  Water level at Packery Channel 5.1 feet.

GPS > > > 51.3 miles 32.5 mph peak speed 20.6 mph moving average.
