Wyatt Miller was demoing Naish stuff at Rowena, and I was in Hood River with limited time to sail, so headed out there to try to get a rig to use with my board (usually I can take whatever is too big for everybody else). Only a 4.7 sail when I got there--too small. In the meantime Wyatt talked up PSC--I might be swayed... By the time I put on my wetsuit a complete 90L Freestyle Wave and new 2010 5.0 Session appeared, complete with looooooong freestyler harness lines and huuuuugee freestyler footstraps. The harness lines weren't too hard to get used to, since I've already gone with mono lines and everything was pretty well balanced (still had to move them back a smidge, maybe my weight). Weird to hook into, but sailing was OK with the rig way away from you. Footstraps were even weirder. It didn't even feel like I was sailing with footstraps, just loose on the board with a bit of comfort every now and then if I got pulled. But, not too bad, and I figured, if this setup is good enough for Wyatt, it should be good enough for me. Wind was light at the beginning with lots of loose harness line pumping. But it picked up to the point where most folks went in to rerig, but I was A-OK. The Freestyle Wave was a surprise. Really well balanced for heavy folks and didn't feel like 90L but maybe that was because it was the really light/expensive construction. I liked it a lot, much better than the JPs. The 5.0 Session felt good too, but the cutout is just so low. When I got the rig it was already a half inch from the top for normal sized folks. I bumped it all the way up. But still really low, just like my 2007 Force--and I always felt I had somehow rigged that sail wrong but I guess not. | ||
