FINALLY A GOOD ONE AFTER QUITE A DRY SPELL. HAD THOUGHTS OF TRYING 5.4 BUT DIDN'T WHICH WAS THE RIGHT DECISION.
FIRST SESSION WAS STRAIGHT OUT TO THE IWC AND BACK TO LAUNCH, ALWAYS PLANING BUT ONLY POWERED IN THE GUSTS. STILL IT WAS NICE, EASY CRUISING AND ENOUGH POWER AT BOTH ENDS TO JIBE. ALSO MADE A FEW RUNS ACROSS THE IWC PART WAY TO THE KING RANCH AND THE WIND WAS ABOUT THE SAME. HAD A GOOD SESSION, MISSED A JIBE AND FAST TACK ON THE INSIDE BUT THOSE WERE THE ONLY MISSES FOR THE DAY.
SECOND SESSION WAS GREAT, LONG AND FULLY POWERED FOR THE FIRST HOUR OR SO THEN JUST GOOD PLANING CONDITIONS FOR THE LAST HOUR. MADE 6 OR SO TRIPS TO THE KING RANCH SHORELINE WITH THOMAS IN HIS 6.5 AND SMALL TECHNO. ABLE TO STAY AHEAD CONSISTENTLY EXCEPT A COUPLE OF RUNS. WE HAD SEVERAL GREAT RUNS FROM THE KING RANCH SHORELINE BACK ACROSS THE IWC, UP THE BOAT CHANNEL TO THE RAMP. THERE WAS A NICE FLAT AREA THROUGH THE BOAT RAMP CHANNEL AND FOR THE JIBE, THEN WE RAN ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE KING RANCH SHORELINE. THERE IS DEFINITELY A CLEAN SWELL AREA THE DOWNWIND OF THE NORTH CABINS AND BETWEEN THE KING RANCH. GOING BOTH DIRECTIONS YOU CAN MAKE SEVERAL OFFWIND AND UPWIND TURNS ON THE SWELLS AND JUMP. IT IS REALLY A BLAST TO WORK UPWIND UNTIL YOU ARE IN THE ZONE AND THEN BEAR OFF THROUGH IT JUST PLAYING WITH THE SWELL. BACK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE IWC YOU COULD JUMP GOING OUT FROM THE LAUNCH BUT THE TYPICAL GUST WAS NOT THERE FOR INSIDE JIBES. MADE A BUNCH OF HOPS, SEVERAL JUMP AND FAST TACKS.
THE COLD FRONT HIT ABOUT 10AM AND BEST WIND WAS FROM 2-4PM ON 15-20 OFFSHORE FORECAST. HOPING FOR DAWN PATROL WIND TOMORROW BUT EXPECT IT TO DISAPPEAR FAIRLY EARLY?
