Ulrich and I introduced Greg to Langebaan today. We arrived as the tide was about to turn, so the 2km run to Meeuw Island was relatively flat. Later I tried running with some locals and had a close call with a massive motor yacht. It was obscured behind my sail and by the time I saw it, it was too late to head downwind. I passed easily in front of it, but afterwards I thought that a fall in front of it could have been disastrous! Ulrich gunned me on a run towards Meeuw Island, but on the way back I caught him; i realised that my harness lines for the run out were too far forward and after the adjustment I could keep the pace easily. I felt much more comfortable on the smaller Hybrid Freeslalom than on the bigger version, especially in the choppier channel. We tacked up towards Rietbay and then back to Langebaan main beach to take advantage of the flatter water behind Schaapen Island -- traffic was a bit of a problem though, kites dragging downwind through the water and catamarans moving through the channel and fishermen -- so from the main beach we took a downwind run to Donkergat and then back to Cape Sports Centre. | ||
