Much better than yesterday. Same place, same equipment (except for the fin), more wind. I used my smaller stock Carve 111 fin to bleed some power from my 6.6, but it was too small and I spun out regularly. I think not being able to push on the fin caused some problems on the port reach, coming into shore. I just had so much trouble (this is a frequent problem for me at Oleander, the port reach). I tweaked and tweaked but never felt great. Next time in that wind I'll try the 15.25" pointer, but I might trade my Curtis weed 15.5" in for a 14" freeride fin (or, toward one).

The best part about today was that I figured out a kink in my rough water jibe and I really went for it a few times while jumping. I tried about 50 jumps, but not until the end did I really understand how to go for it.

The key, as usual, was sailing with some friends. Evan is a much better windsurfer than I, and I learn a lot by sailing behind him. Well, this time I'm right behind and out of nowhere he just pops this decent jump. I'm about 50 feet back so I head for the same ramp. I didn't get organized quickly enough so I passed on it and hit the one right after it. Man, it felt GREAT! I don't know how high I got, and I didn't land it well, but I WENT FOR IT, instead of chickening out. It's really not that big of a deal, but my brain has been trained for 31 years to keep me out of these circumstances and I think I finally overrode those instincts. Sounds weird, huh? Anyway, like I said they weren't huge, weren't pretty and weren't landed, but I did really go for it three times at the end and felt great about it. I'm really looking forward to trying more of them.

I am really tired right now. Trying something new like jumping, with all the spinouts and waterstarts and all the trips to shallow water to tweak really wears a guy out!
