Today was a fantastic big wind day. I went to Bird Island because yesterday it rained heavily and I didn't want to sail the Bay because it's polluted after all the runoff from big storms. It will be that way for a few days.
It was really cranking today and I sailed a lot. I had a bunch of awesome jibes, a bunch of decent ones and a few wally jibes. There were a lot of buddies out, too, and we ripped together. Evan threw a loop right in front of me at one point. It was pretty awesome.
Evan also saw a shark at one point. Sharks aren't too common at Bird Island and I'm not too worried about it, but it was interesting. I think it was a pretty small one, like four or five feet. There were tons of jellyfish, though, "sea nettles" the local aquarium calls them. They have a sting to them, but it's not very painful. It feels like a bad sunburn that someone slaps. Many people wore long lycra suits. Thomas was wearing long pants, the windbreaker type, and got one up his leg and had to go in to get it out. He didn't like that! I got stung a bunch, probably 6-8 times, but mostly only the lower leg. I was pretty much nursing a sting the whole day. At one point I got one wrapped around my leg and had to shake it off. It will be nice when the jellyfish lighten up again.
Probably another day like that tomorrow, and maybe Friday & Saturday, too.
