Came with Wouter to my parents place on the Westcoast to pick up the Mirror Dinghy that I left in their living room for the past year.
It gave us an excuse to sail Verlorenvlei. Very good wind and the whole place to ourselves. Wouter rigged a 5.0 NP Zone and I went on a 5.3 SF. Lots of waves were blown up on the shore from where we launched. I experienced a lot of spinout and also felt overpowered. Changed down to 4.7 SF and moved the fin as far back as possible. Everything was perfect from this point on.
Back on the water I set off on a marathon run. I just kept going and the wind kept getting better. Later I thought I better turn around now, because the Wouter-guy wont be able to see me anymore (that is how far I went). When I stopped, he pulled up beside me, so he followed me all the way! Great surprise.
We had more epic runs after that. BAFing has never been this good (or interesting with the waves and chop). Nicest moment was putting my fin just in front of the vee created by his wake and us gunning so close to each other. Magic day.
In search of beer we met Nick Taylor - a local with a Loch Fyne Dinghy who stays on the vlei. I took his number for future dinghy cruising reference.
