Sailed with Ulrich and Wouter. We met John at UCT YC.
The wind was actually SSE with a 17,4 knots average. One could see chop with rare white horses and on the water actually experienced a couple of lulls.
1st session: Used the 5.4 Duke (mast 430+10cm & boom 145+30 outhauled till touching end) on the SuperX. I had some planing runs, but felt underpowered and fell off the plane during lulls. Even while planing getting into the backstrap would sink the tail.
2nd session: Rigged 5,7 Blade (mast 430+10cm & boom 145+40 pulled to within 2cm from end) on the SuperX. Now I was well powered up and in both footstraps (waterstarted even in back footstrap). Had to move harness lines 2cm back.
3rd session: Switched boards to Hybrid 109 setup with single backstrap and 36cm fin. Perfectly powered -- had no problem handling the chop. Planing runs in the straps and tacking upwind easily to get longer runs above the blue buoys.
Problems: Rigged as described above the bottom two battens on the Duke struggled rotating.
