Wind Journal for Christiaan -- Tuesday February 12, 2008 , 5:00p-6:00p -- See All

4th session in 2008
Sailed at Zeekoevlei (UCT) - Cape Town, ZA
Rated a 2 of 10

Board: Naish Supercross 250 - 85 litre (2004)
Sail: 5.4 North Duke (2007)
Fin: Naish Supercross 23cm
Suit: Reef Fullsuit

Ulrich and I went to Zeekoevlei for another sail. We saw a bakkie with a Windsurfer OD at the corner cafe at the turn-off. We stopped and so met Brian and his buddy. They invited us to launch at his friend Adam's house on Heron Street - so gaining access from the peninsula upwind from UCT's sailing club.

Ulrich rigged a 5.0 NP Zone and I rigged the 5.4 Duke, planning to sail the Supercross for the first time. Literally while rigging the wind dropped. Continued to sail the small board totally underpowered in non-planing mode. Even managed to slog right across to the other side and then waited, for what felt like forever, for a gust to waterstart and slog back.

Adam said that in future we can park in his drive-way and then launch from this spot. The jetty is somewhat tricky, but it makes longer runs with less chop (than when launching at UCT YC) possible.

Also, Brian leaves his OD there and it is adapted to take a modern rig. ;-)
