Bird Island on a 15-20 forecast from SE. It was an amazing day -- blue sky, warm, wonderful. The wind was really gusty but I got a few good rides in on my 7.8 and Allstar 70, about 90 minutes of off and on. I'll tell you, having a good sized fin makes a huge difference. In that kind of wind (15 mph) before I had the fin, I probably wouldn't have been planing very often. With the fin I was up and out there. It was some decent flat-water blasting.

It lightened up so I tried doing some sail freestyle, but the 7.8 was just too big. I hadn't thought about it before, but a 7.8 is just too much to be stylishly flinging around. I was the one getting flung around, including a painful Allstar 70 nose to Hans' groin area slam. Just imagine me with a high pitched voice.

I can't believe how nice it is, at this time of year, and there are so few people taking advantage of it. Amazing. I sailed with John, Mike, Peter from Austin and a guy I don't know. There was also an unknown kiter and one more unknown sailor, who launched well upwind.
