Discover Windsurfing Day was a huge success - Dave & I watched Carrie Robertson teach on the simulator for about an hour, then we took turns teaching. (Carrie is really a tough act to follow!) It was fun and rewarding to watch lots of people get stoked about trying windsurfing. Lots of young people too. Around 3:00, my brain was mush - so Dave took over on the simulator and I headed out to Bird Island to see if there was some energy left in me for a short session. When I arrived around 3:30, there seemed to be a good bit so schloging going on especially on the inside, so I rigged big. Started out on the 133 ltr Hypersonic and that proved to be way to big - the wind was much better out on the water. Recalling T-Bob's famous words of wisdom - change the board before you change your sail - proved to be the fix. I've never sailed the 78 ltr JP with a 6.6 sail but it worked fine. Actually it was a terrific combo. Luckily I had put plenty of downhaul on the sail so it was smooth and fun to sail even on a relatively small board. It was a really fun session although I was off on my jibes - guess I was more tired than I thought. Sailed from 4 - 6:15 pm - I was the lone windsurfer from 5:30 till about 6:10 when one other guy came out. It was time for me to get off the water around 6:15ish, but wind was still pretty good. 2007-miles-to-date: 1106.3 | ||
