Some decent wind in the morning saved WindFest
from a total skunk. I got down there early after
the swap meet and was one of the first on the water,
demo'ing a JP Supercross 105 (?) and a NP
Saber 6.7. The Supercross was great, really well
balanced for a guy my size and the no-nose didn't
stick much, and when it did was easy to recovery
because of the massive amount of volume and
minor scoop. The board was also blazing fast.
The Saber I didn't like so much. It was camless
and the battens were off the mast and along
the centerline. So when you pumped they would
first rotate into the draft, which killed any
kind of impulse power you could get from pumping.
No me gusta.

Second session was with a HiFly MoveIt 108 (?)
and a Sailworks Retro 7.0. I had a hard time
getting this setup dialed in and even when I
came in it still didn't feel right. The MoveIt
had a similar outline to the SuperCross but
didn't feel nearly as good or as fast. I've
rented Retros before and never had much luck with
them. It felt like the sail was shifting all over
the place.

Third session was pretty light wind and I never
really got planing enough to evaluate things
properly. I was on a Starboard type which is a
funky flat shape. Schlogging it was interesting
because when the nose starting to go down
there was really nothing to keep it from doing a
full submarine dive. No scoop, no volume. Nada.
But it might have worked really well on a plane.
I'll never know. I was using it with e Severne
6.5 Gator which actually felt really nice and
balanced the whole time I was painfully slogging.
So maybe a good sail to look into.

I struck out trying to find a 4.0 at the swapmeet
in the morning. There was some good stuff there
but people scammed it before I could get a look.
In the afternoon Big Winds had an autograph session
with Robby Naish, so I splurged and bought a
4.0 Naish Force and had Robby sign the luff sleave.
Fiscally responsible? No, but it makes me smile :-).
So bring on the 32 knots!
