I really might have been OK on a 5.5, but there
were loads of holes out there and I think the
6.5 was the right choice. The wind was all over
the place and just to put it in perspective
some guys were out there on 4.7's. But they were schlogging some times and I was not :-).
Actually in the holes I could even surf the swell,
so I wasn't that overpowered all the time.

Day ended on a sad note. While shlogging (told
you...) I punched the nose into a wave and did
a slow, controlled pearl into the water (anchored
by my back strap). That wouldn't normally be a problem
but in the process I leveraged my rear footstrap
out of the insert (the insert had split into a
dozen pieces. On shore the vent still hissed, \but it looked like the insert had done some magic on
the deck further up as well.

So, after a trip to fiberglass supply in Bingen
(nobody in Hood River repairs or makes boards
anymore?) and Home Depot in the Dalles my wave
board is now under repair in the campground.

I dremeled out the old insert and took out the
crushed foam on the deck (some of which was
a tad damp, I guess the insert had cracked
the glass somewhere. Then put down the
first layer of glass. Tomorrow, glass in the
insert. Friday, glass the deck (twice). Saturday
paint (well, spray some flat white on it anyway).

Supposed to be high winds again on Sunday,
so we'll see. Until then I have the beefy Veloce
for some lightwind flatwater slalom.
