Just got back to the Gorge. Saturday was pretty
overcast. Supposedly the Hatchery was going good,
and it seemed that way on driving in--folks were
zipping across the river. But on closer inspection
big gusts were rolling through followed by big lulls.
I almost decided to go out on a 5.5 with the floaty
Veloce, so I could sit in the lulls while surviving
the gusts, but ultimately decided that would really
suck. So I gave up my prime parking spot in front
of the johns and headed to the windless east.
iWindsurf said eventually the wind would fill in
here, but it wasn't looking good. Clouds were
everywhere and some spots of sun over Hood
River weren't encouraging. So I sat. Eventually
another guy got out his 6.5, so I carried
mine down the hill as well. Luckily before I
had rigged anything the wind picked up and
I went back for my 5.5, which did pretty well
for the next two hours. It died right after that,
so good to be there ahead of time.
BTW I'm in Memaloose A44 for the next two weeks.
