Arrived on the island around 2pm and it sure didn't look windy. Since I left my light-wind gear at home, I stopped by T-Bob's house and got his 133 ltr HyperSonic.
From the beach, it was deceptive because there was some pretty decent wind on the water that wasn't apparent on the beach. The HyperSonic popped up on a plane and off we went for 3 hours of ripping around. Since I planned away immediately, I lured other windsurfers who were waiting on the beach with long faces. We were wondering where the 15 to 25 mph wind was - and it was building up to that very quickly. I had to fuss with the 6.6 which cost me mileage (I was hoping to go 50 miles) but I finally got it downhauled perfectly so it wasn't too hard to handle in the 24 mph gusts. The HyperSonic was a kick to ride. I was impressed with it's range. No scholgging in the holes. It flew but didn't get unruly in the gusts and I was way powered up. Olivier gave me some jibing tips on the water. He would run behind me, watch me jibe, then ride in front so I could observe his technique. We stopped on the water and he explained the things he said would improve my jibes. So I'm not sure if trying so hard to implement Oliviers tips messed me up or it was just very different jibing the Hyper. Made several runs to Boom Point since the wind was real ESE.
Although my GPS Max Speed was 31.1 mph - which seemed believeable - verified on GPS Action Replay - confirming that 28.2 mph was my max speed.
