5th session in 2007
Sailed at Grassy Point
Wind from the N (mph)
        lulls: 18
        average: 27
        gusts: 33
Rated a 8 of 10

Board: Carve 99
Sail: 5.4 Infinity
Fin: 10" Wardog Weed Wave
Suit: Rash Guard
Water Temperature: 86 F
Air Temperature: 90 F

Lots of wind, fun. Found the 5.4 a little too much at times, but also noticed that when I flattened it out a lot, it handled better in guts but had almost nothing on the low end. This helps me understand my problems in the bay, where I tend to flatten my sails for control, but too much apparently. Perhaps going smaller would make more sense, as I could have low end power plus high end control. The sail would be rigged as the designer intended, instead of as a paranoid windsurfer was doing. I've struggled so much at times when the sail felt just like this. So I'm betting it's the downhaul + outhaul that is my problem. Man, to think of all the frustrating days in the bay!!!

I think flattening out like that makes the low end like a 3.0, just really bad (I'm sure I put too much outhaul on it, I wouldn't blame David Ezzy for that one).

I might need a smaller fin, too. I used my 10" Wardog Weed, but probably could have used something like a 9". The weeds were bad, but the 10" did well in not trapping them.
