Took a half day off from work. After all - last night Dale Nelson said You Windsurfers Are Going to Love It Tommorrow. He was right. Bird Island was packed! Worldwinds had 27 customers on the water!
I wanted to sail comfortably so I rigged a bit smaller than what the other ladies were on (Rita was sailing a 5.0). I love my Huckers - I rigged it to optimize it's power capability yet I was never overpowered in the gusts - the Hucker matched with the JP and the little Wahoo fin was a perfect matchup.
It was so crowded in front of the launch, so I made a couple of tacks to the south and made all of my runs from the shore across from Island #2 to Island # 3 (and often way past I#3) The rollers between the islands were a real blast. Got lots of great ramps. I started out at 2pm and sailed till 5:10pm. The first hour another windsurfer was sailing the rollers between I#2 & #3 but after that I was by myself until I made some runs way south where everybody else was sailing. I freaked out when I got back and saw that one of my spring clip buttons that holds the mast to the universal was busted off. Obviously rusted away. It would have been really bad if both buttons had fallen out because I'd probably still be out there waiting for a rescue.
AWESOME DAY - 10 +++++++
Looks like I'll make my goal of 500 miles on my windsurfer by the end of the 1st quarter of '07.
