Board: BIC Nova
Sail: NP Saber 7.2 2005, NP V8 8.5 2002
Fin: Select Ride 50
Suit: Short sleeve.

12 knots, so I decided to rig my 8.5. I was eager to try out my new fin, a replacment when I lost the old one. Fin was excellent, I could point very well, no problems with planing.

But when I came back to the short, I broke my mast. Perhaps to much pressure. Perhaps I had clamped the boom to tight, perhaps the fairly strong surf put to much pressure. And probably I wasn't careful enough. Luckily my sail wasn't damaged, but this wasn't good.

Next I rigged my 7.5, but because when bringing my damaged gear to the car I somehow had lost the top piece of my mast base. Hadn't noticed, so I just rigged the 7.5, but of course the mast was just put on the mast base with only the ring piece holding it from sliding now, no top to protect it. Had a few good runs with the 7.5, but the wind was dying, so I came back to the shore.

When I unrigged I found that the mast had moved over the ring and the ring was twisted. Couldn't remove the mast base. At that time I still hadn't noticed I was missing the top piece, so I left the mast base and mast bottom sort of glued together and went to the shop a couple of days after that, to see if there was something that could be done. And then they told me I was missing the top. Argggh. Luckily they could pull the bottom off and put on a new ring. Mast wasn't damaged they reckoned.

Let's hope. This has been a bad, bad number of sessions now. First the 400 mast, which pierced the mast sleeve. Next I couldn't come back with my small board, lost the fin. Now broke my 490 mast, and almost damaged my 460 mast.

If this continues I'll have to take on another sport. Something less costly. Fishing perhaps.
