Went to BIB to sail with Scott from Montana, who read some stuff on my website and came down. I didn't really get a chance to sail with him though, because I couldn't find his rental sail readily. I think I saw him once, only to see him going in (probably to get a bigger sail).
I went out first on my 6.6/Carve99 but it was much lighter than 30 minutes before and though I had a few rides, after about 45 minutes I came in for the Aero.
I had the same problem with the Aero as in previous sessions -- getting enough leverage on the fin. I think it might be the weed wave fin I was using, which is farther back already. Next time I use it, I'm first going to move the mast base as far back as I can, then try one of the two stock fins that come with the Aero (they seem much better than in previous years).
Even though I had the leverage problem, I really, really had a good time on the Aero. I sailed up by the third island with a couple of other guys. The board can move pretty well. I'd say that with the leverage problem taken care of, the board could probably hit 33mph, which is good for a fat wave board. It rides well and is a lot of fun. I was doing 'S' curves, finally figuring out how to turn it like that while in the straps. It's a lot of rolling of the body, not just the feet, and it's a smooth move, trying to muscle it won't work. You have to set the board up and let IT do the carving.
Jibes were fun, this board jibes well. Usually I'm on a sinker (for my weight, the 99 is a bit of sinker), but having all that volume just made it easy. It was a day I needed, after being humbled in the bay 6 out of 7 recent days!
