I had a lot of fun, especially with jumping. I thought the ramps were easier today because they were coming more at me than upwind of me (I think due to the wind direction). A few of the better sailors were complaining about it, though, so maybe it was a better day for other reasons.
One reason could be Thomas, who I waited to sail with. He's improved a lot, and I have a lot to learn from him. Just sailing with him for awhile helped me improve in a couple of ways.
I felt really balanced for a good part of the day, upright and ready to jump. I had a wide variety of jumps, some not too good, some low and longer than I've ever done and one where I hit a good size ramp at the exact right time and basically just panicked as I was going up. I blew that one, but now I know the feeling of really being lofted up there. I went up and straight down. Other jumps were better, and I was much, much more comfortable in the air than ever before. It felt pretty good. I have a long way to go to be a good jumper, but I feel I made some progress today. The wind was up and down, but not gusty. I was able to plane most of the time, and used a couple of technique changes to slog better, and to plane quicker (pushing much, much more with the front foot, hardly any weight on the rear foot, bearing off more). Good times.
Thomas told me about a couple of good sessions he recently had at Port A in head-high waves, side off conditions for good down-the-line sailing. It was a morning cold front, and I couldn't really be there, but I was jealous. I want to learn to sail like that, too!
